Vodka - p.i.n.k.
PROOF: 80 (40%)
AGE: Not Applicable
TYPE: Dutch wheat with caffeine and guarana
PRICE: $33.00 750 ML
Notes: Produced in southern Holland, this vodka in the vodka is column- distilled five times, and the water used is deep well water. Using three varieties of Dutch winter wheat grown in the south of Holland and using water from a deep aquifer near Sweet Lake a few miles inland from the sea. They infuse the vodka with caffeine and guarana- a South American berry with known stimulant effect.
Appearance: Crystal clear (vodka itself is not pink in color), no sediment whatsoever. Limpid shining pool in the glass. On swirling, it leaves a thin clear coat on the inside of the glass with long thin legs. Wonderful bright appearance.
First Impression: Alcohol and grain, plump, rich smell. Has slightly sweet notes. Almost a berry-like or pink peppercorn smell in background, probably from the wheat.
Taste: Plump grain body glides past the tongue- nipping at it with the alcohol edge and nice lingering finish. Slight sweetness and a bread/grain taste to the finish. It has presence and weight to it (medium soft body), not the hard mineral water taste a Russian vodka has, nor the "vodka lite" taste of those that use distilled water.
Drinks: A very good mixing vodka. The caffeine and guarana did not seem to effect mixing or taste, and did not feeling like nodding off afterward. Martini* was excellent (with a twist of lemon).
*Use Noilly Prat and keep the vermouth refrigerated after opening for the best taste.
Final Thoughts: If you factor in that you don't have to pay for the Red Bull (or better yet not have to drink the Red Bull) it makes this vodka the low cost option over Stoli or the Avian Fashion Victim Vodka Red Bull martinis (the only point of which to me is to get the energy factor going). It tastes much better too! It's one way to get your caffeine without having to buy coffee. Decently made, much better than many similar attempts.
Bottle: Frosted, cylindrical with squared of shoulder, and of course, pink.
Detractors would say it look like a spa or hair product bottle- but it does stand out.
Fast loading, fair amount of information. Interesting design.
