Notes: This is the new limited edition art series of the standard 1800 Silver is aged (rested) in primarily American Oak barrels with a small amount of French Oak for about 15 days. Other versions are the regular (unadorned) 80 proof Silver, the slightly older 1800 Reposado and their older brother 1800 Anejo , and some older limited editions we have not been able to review as yet.
Appearance: Nicely clear, almost saplike brilliance. Leaves even coat on swirling.
First Impression: Not overly aromatic, sea salt, and slightly antiseptic smell.
Taste: Sweetish, agave sap, slightly thick, waxy mouth feel, dry finish. A touch raw in the finish.
Drinks: Margaritas of course, and Tequila Sunrises. Distinctive, but not overwhelming in both drinks. Stands out against any mixer. Adjust drinks for higher proof and more assertive flavor profile.
Final Thoughts: A drinkable tequila and a work of limited edition art at a cheap price. Good choice one for someone on a budget or who is just starting to explore tequila and also wants and amusing bottle for their shelf or bar. Downside is it is a bit fiery or raw - but sometimes you want that in a Tequila - makes you appreciate what you are potentially doing to yourself and might slow you down.
Bottle: Rectangular with shaved off edges and squared off shoulders.Labels are clear and on rthe side so as not to obscure the artwork. Simple pressed glass design of stylized agave at bottom, Squarish glass stopper with cork around glass stem (seals tightly) - an important point with tequila- assuming you are keeping the bottle for a while. Moderately heavy glass large square bottom and short silhouette make it a hard to tip over bottle.
Other: 10 different designs that really stand out and is far more amusing and eye catching over their standard issue bottle.
