Rum Flavored - Konyagi
Kingwaji Safi,Tanzania, East Africa
Importer: Julius Imports , Inglewood,California
INGREDIANT: Molasses, Spices and flavorings
PROOF: 75 (?) (35%)
AGE: Not Applicable
PRICE: $3.00 - 200 ML ( so about $10 for 750 ml)
Notes: We were a little unsure where to list this one. It is described as a liquor, but is made from sugarcane/molasses.
Appearance: Clear, no sediment whatsoever. On swirling, it leaves a thin, but tenacious clear coat on the inside of the glass, then develops long legs and some droplets on the edge line.
First Impression: Citrus, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon, .tropical fruit
Taste: Citrus, tropical fruit and spices mostly. Some spice heat in the finish with fruity notes.
Drinks: We found it to be very versatile . It can be used as a substitute for vodka, gin or a rum. Mixes nicely with almost every other ingredient you can throw at it in a umbrella drink. Works well with juices energy drinks or whatever else you have on hand. Makes for a more complex Mojito or Caipirinha
Cigars: Have a little Dagga with it and make your day go slower.
Final Thoughts: A good cheap spiced rum/liquor that is smooth and multipurpose. Well worth a try for mixology experiments. Spice/flavoring is nice and not overdone. Smooth enough to drink on its own . Also you are getting a higher proof for the same or less money than the ubiquitous Captain Morgan with a much cleaner taste so we give it extra value points.
Bottle: Clear glass semi generic bottle like any number of other rum bottles in the 750 size. Simple paper labels on front and back. 200 ml is a flask size and we enjoy the suggestion of icing a bunch of them down in a bucket like beer.
