Gosling's Gold Rum
Importer: Heaven Hill, Bardstown, KY
Ingredients: Molasses
Proof: 80
Age: 5 Years
Price: $16.00 750ml

Distilled in pot stills and column stills and the majority of the blend bottled at 5 years of age. This rum is part of a series, the others being the Blackseal and Old Rum. While usually not a fan of Bermuda rums , I can't argue with the price of these or the quality so far.

Appearance: Luscious, translucent, light copper/gold color clear with no hazing separation or floating sediments. Long legs develop on swirling.

First Impression: Slightly heavy, sweetish, caramelized molasses, fruit and spices but drying nose, lean.

Taste: Spicy, medium bodied, touch of sulfur. Nutty, fruity, spicy, oak finish. A touch on the light side but what do you expect from a gold rum.

Drinks: Cheap enough to use and not worry about wasting it plenty of spice to stand up against other ingredients. Quite assertive and somewhat complex.

Cigars: Any decent cigar will do - like a La Gloria Cubana or Hoyo de Monterrey.

Final Thoughts: A very nice rum for the money. Our choice for use as a casual mixer. Well made and well worth the money. Usually any rum under $20 is a risky proposition. This one however is decent for the money.

Bottle/Packaging: Clear glass with rounded clear silk screened labels and dark redneck wrap. Not much to look at, but shows the darker color of this gold rum nicely.

Web site:

Quick-loading, and somewhat informative. Easy-to-read and navigate. No off switch/choice for the music makes it a bit annoying after a while.
