Importer: Niche Imports, Cedar Knolls, New Jersey
GRAIN: Grape Spirit and Raspberries
PROOF: 84 (42% )
AGE: Not Applicable
TYPE: Eau de Vie
PRICE: $ 40.00 750 ML
Notes: This is an eau de vie made from combining a mixture of neutral spirit and the maceration (basically soaking in alcohol) of fresh unfermented wild raspberries from the Carpathians and the resulting mash is distilled in small copper pot stills. It does not use cheap bulk ethanol and chemical flavors like some (O. K., most) of its competitors. It uses a much more true (but expensive) process.
Appearance: Clear bright, on swirling it leaves a thick clear coat on the inside of the glass and shows some extremely long legs legs. The blending of the alcohol and the essence of raspberry is difficult at best and in this case faultless.
First Impression: Essence of raspberries- no, none, not any, off notes or traces of chemical enhancement.
Drinks: Don't. Drink it straight and pay attention.Too good to miss.
Final Thoughts: Sublime, wonderful, and fabulous.
Bottle: Clear rectangular glass with sloped shoulders- family crest and name pressed into glass between parchment style labels Other folk designs on sides and back. White neck foil to distinguish Himbeergeist (others are red or green). Red wax medallion and cord at neck/shoulder area.
