Notes: One of a series of bitters from a relatively new company in American company - although truth be told anyone other than Fee, Angostura, Underberg and Peychauds - all in business for over 100 years -is a relative newcomer ) , the founders of the company, Janet and Avery launched their unique products on the market in 2007.

The other bitters in the regular series are: Bittermens Boston Bittahs, Bittermens Grapefruit, and Bittermens Elemakule Bitters, there also may be seasonal bitters of different flavors coming out in the future. As a footnote the product was licensed to Bittertruth Bitters and the deal ended in July of 2010. It is now directly available from Bittermans Bitters.

First Impression: Aromatic with lots of cocoa alkalis backstopped with cinnamon and several bitter herbs and spicy combination lots of spice going on.

Appearance:  Gold brown, fairly thin and free flowing compared to some bitters.

Taste: Very dry alkali chocolate, cinnamon and other dry spices. Quite aromatic with cinnamon, burdock, celery, gentian, and orris root notes.

Drinks: Punches up aged spirits nicely and adds excellent accentuating flavor accents that you will find in no other commercial bitter.

Bottle: Dark cobalt blue glass old-style / tincture bottle with a built in eyedropper in the screw on cap for ease of use. Pairing/use ideas included on label.

Other: Dropper eliminates imprecision in using (rather than a dash type top).

Final Thoughts: Nicely done and the best and most faithful to Xocolatl Mole type bitter we have encountered so far. Well made, interesting and tasty addition to the bitters category. Yes, it costs 4 times as much as the cheap stuff - but take a look at our Bitter Math page to see how meaningless that is. For the money it adds a LOT of excellent, unique, nuanced flavor.

Quick loading website- with decent amount of information and company history, where to order (always important), events and updates. With all this, somehow still easy-to-navigate.
