One of a series of bitters from a relatively new company in American company - although truth be told anyone other than Fee, Angostura, Underberg and Peychauds - all in business for over 100 years -is a relative newcomer )
, the founders of the company, Janet and Avery launched their unique products on the market in 2007.
The other bitters in the regular series are: Bittermens 'Elemakule Tiki Bitters , Bittermens Grapefruit and Bittermens Xocolatl Mole Bitters, there also may be seasonal bitters of different flavors coming out in the future.
First Impression: Earthy and spicy combination with lots of citrus going on.
Appearance: Green brown, fairly thin and free flowing compared to some bitters.
Taste: Very dry, aromatic, bitter and quite salty with al fair amount spice notes. Bitter, salty and a interesting blend of chamomiles bitter playing off against citrus make this a savory/herbal fruit bitter.
Drinks: Great to use for a variation on a Hanky Panky - a Manhattan that uses Fernet Branca instead of Vermouth - you can use vermouth and substitute Boston Bittahs for your regular bitters to make a kinder, gentler version of the Hanky Panky.
Bottle: Dark cobalt blue glass old-style / tincture bottle with a built in eyedropper in the screw on cap for ease of use
Other: Dropper eliminates imprecision in use (rather than a dash type top).
Final Thoughts:
An interesting bitters- somewhere between a Campari with salt and a citrus (as opposed to mint) amaro in terms of the flavor palette Well made and interesting addition to the bitters category.
